| General description: | Capillary columns have three distinctive layers namely, fused silica tube, protective coating and stationary phase. Fused silica tubing refers to tubing with a protective coating. Fused silica is the most commonly used material for capillary column tubing as it is a synthetic, quartz like glass containing less than 1ppm of metallic oxide impurities. Untreated fused silica is very active due to the presence of silanol groups. |
