General description: | L-Ascorbic acid plays the role of an antioxidant in plants in regulating the reactive oxygen species mechanism to form reduced peroxides. It is present abundantly as a non-enzymatic antioxidant in higher plants. It can be synthesized in a variety of plants and in all known mammals, except primates and guinea pigs. It can commonly be used in the prevention of scurvy disease. |
