Application: Methyl paraben was used a preservative standard in commercial food products, during an experimental investigation, done to study the application of microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography (MEEKC), in detecting food preservatives.

General description: Methyl Paraben is a stable, non-volatile, methyl ester of p-hydroxybenzoic acid. It can find applications as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial preservative in foods, drugs and cosmetics. It is found to be noncarcinogenic and is highly effective against fungi like molds and yeast as well as bacteria.
General description: Methyl paraben is basically a methyl ester of p-hydroxybenzoic acid. It is non-toxic, and non-carcinogenic in nature. It is a stable, non-volatile compound and finds application as an anti-microbial preservative in foods, drugs and cosmetics. It is readily absorbed through the skin and gastrointestinal tract. Upon hydrolyzation, it is hydrolyzed to p-hydroxybenzoic acid, and the conjugates formed get rapidly excreted in the urine.
